This screen reader works terribly!
This is absurd. Why can't my computer do the same as my Android phone and read the sceen? Esp. at 2.5x speed? Accessibility? No, this extension hasn't been developed beyond the 1 star drive a user crazy point.
I like the extension; it seems fine and does exactly what it's supposed to. I use it to test accessibility during development, at least to ensure minimal support for screen readers. However, the most recent update of this extension, when turned on, breaks the Extensions tab's CSS styling, making it practically impossible to turn off - unless you use the keyboard. Since the screen reader extension is on, it announces "ON," which can be toggled with the spacebar, thus turning off the extension and fixing the Extensions tab's CSS. So, it's really a fine extension - it broke everything around it, but was able to announce invisible element that could be toggled with the keyboard to un-break everything it broke.
It breaks Chrome. Don not install.
Using this extension on a regular Windows PC, the extension cannot be controlled via shortcuts - at least I wasn't able to find out how to do it, yet. If the extension is not meant to be used on Windows systems, then it would be great if the extension wasn't offered to those currently using it to avoid these compatibility issues. If it is usable including all hotkeys... someone please enlighten me how so and talking to you, Google, please be considerate of such users in the extension's settings and include information regarding the use of the extension on a Win system. Thanks.
I just wanted something to read my doc back to me. NOW IT IS SPELLING OUT MY REVIEW LETTER FOR LETTER
worst extenssssssssssssssssssssssion not closing at allllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
It is a good extension, the only one thing you can improve is to add an option to pause/stop it
you can temporarily unable the extension by accessing to the next link "chrome://extensions" if you are in chrome, if u are in edge "edge://extensions", same the logic for the other browsers. There you can switch the enabling button on and off.
Basically, you can't pause, if you want to pause it, uninstall. If you want to play it, install. Simple right?
It will not stop talking and it is getting on my nerves, it says every word I type. It is more annoying than useful. OMG it so annoying.
Doesn't read but keeps up speaking garbage. Not sure why this exists.
I'm someone who is partially sighted who rely on voice and sight. Unfortunately Google Chrome is not compatible with Windows Narrator. When I installed ChromeVox it worked pretty well for Chrome but all the settings page glitches to the point it becomes unusable. Please fix Google!
It's ok, but should definitely highlight each word as its reading it and allow a user to select a word to start the reading from, not an entire paragraph. I like using the screen reader built into Microsoft Edge, look at that one and try to improve this extension - or better yet build the reader right into Chrome, so a user can right click and choose read webpage without the need to get an extension.
Awesome screen reader, though impossible to disable without installing an extension manager. (I recommend doing this if you do not want to listen to it forever and get headaches. It also slightly distorts web pages, so sometimes needed to see what the page is supposed to look like as well.)
I cannot recall any other digital tool that has made as much of a positive impact on people with visual impairments as this screen reader. Its precision and rapidity are remarkable, and it simplifies navigating digital content to a great extent. I have been using it for a few months, and I can confidently affirm that it has revolutionized the way I interact with my computer. The most striking feature of this screen reader is its customizability - I can personalize the speed and volume of the voice, and use it with a wide range of applications and websites. In conclusion, I strongly recommend this screen reader to anyone who needs it. It is a magnificent tool that has genuinely enhanced my life. If I could, I would rate it a 1000 out of 5!
Just terrible, the control + alt + z not working to disable it.
Okay so I really like some features of this screenreader like the female english accent is actually comprehensible and annunciates words properly. BUT, you cannot turn it off, on certain pages like PDFs, chrome settings, etc. it messes up the format of the site and options are removed. For instance, the downloading option is missing on PDFs. The screenreader also makes certain sites function weirdly and certain aspects don't load. The voice is good, I can't say the same about the rest because I personally don't like having tab names and whatnot read out.
Guys I found it, to turn it off you can go to manage extensions, after in manage extensions you'll find some extensions that you can enable or turn it off using toggle
Like everyone else has said, there is no toggle to run the reading off while the extensions is enabled. My work around was to install the extension on the Chrome Beta. Because this is installed as a 2nd Chrome instance, I use the supported Chrome for my day to day and then fire up Chrome Beta to use the screen reader. Not ideal, but it works for me.
That there isn't a toggle to turn the extension on/off is bonkers.
This used to work months ago when I found it. Now the silly thing can't read anything I try to select EXCEPT the silly right click menu options. After fighting with the extension for over 10 minutes reparing/unloading and then reinstalling, trying to find alternatives, etc I have given up the search until I find the energy again.
